This painting grew out of a longing for reassurance--a need to believe when doubts lie all around. It is about believing that the spirit survives the body, that we will be reunited with those we love, that we live in a world that still holds meaning and benevolence. This painting is also about believing in one's own persistent spirit, and the grace that keeps it kindled.
