I was walking onto a pier that extended like an arm into the quiet lake. It was not long after my sister had passed away and quite often I would sense that the next world was very real and very close. This was one of those times. I had the distinct sensation that if I only knew how, I could walk right off the end of the pier and, instead of falling into the water, would slip into the next world and be with my sister again. The idea of an abrupt end to the path of the pier--and to my sister's path--was in this moment inconceivable. The way must continue. She must continue. And the space between the seen and the unseen, the known and the believed, is the bridge.
